2024 ROOKIE DRAFT BOARD

2024 FFLUS Rookie Draft Team-by-Team Recap

By Grant Sterling

The 2024 Rookie Draft has come and gone, and boy, do we have a lot to unpack. Some teams nailed it, while others… well, let’s just say they made some picks that had us scratching our heads. Let’s dive into the highs, lows, and what-the-fuck-was-that moments from this year’s draft.

Coweta Cowboys

Top Pick: Marvin Harrison Jr. (WR)

Marvin Harrison Jr. was the no-brainer choice, and honestly, if you had the 1.01 and didn’t pick this guy, you should probably be banned from your league. The team also added Brian Thomas Jr. in the first round, providing another solid option at wide receiver. With these selections, the Cowboys have significantly strengthened their receiving corps, setting themselves up for a potent aerial attack. Additionally, the Cowboys secured Ray Davis (RB) and Jayden Daniels (QB) in the second round, adding depth to their backfield and ensuring they have options at the quarterback position.

Thomasville Shockers

Top Pick: Caleb Williams (QB)

The Shockers wasted no time in upgrading their offense by selecting Caleb Williams with the second overall pick. Williams, a dynamic dual-threat quarterback, is expected to be a franchise cornerstone for Thomasville. To complement Williams, the Shockers also drafted Rome Odunze (WR) with the 10th overall pick, giving their new quarterback a big target with playmaking ability. This duo could turn into a fantasy goldmine. They also picked up Audric Estime (RB) and Kool-Aid McKinstry (CB), because who doesn’t want a guy named Kool-Aid on their roster? The Shockers clearly focused on building a strong core around Williams, aiming to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Atlanta Alcoholics

Top Pick: Adonai Mitchell (WR)

The Alcoholics rolled the dice on Adonai Mitchell, a wide receiver with boom-or-bust potential. If he hits, he’s going to be a fantasy steal; if he doesn’t, well, let’s just say you might be drowning your sorrows in something stronger than Gatorade. Mitchell's potential is undeniable, and if he can develop consistency, he could become a key piece of their offense. The Alcoholics also added Ricky Pearsall (WR) in the second round, showing their commitment to enhancing their passing game. The rest of their draft focused on filling out the defense and adding depth, with players like Terrion Arnold (CB) and Edgerrin Cooper (LB) joining the squad. Atlanta’s draft strategy centered on addressing key needs while also taking a few calculated risks that could pay off in the long run.

TexMex Tacomunchers

Top Pick: Keon Coleman (WR)

The Tacomunchers went with Keon Coleman, a receiver with the kind of physical tools that make fantasy managers drool. Coleman brings a blend of size and speed that should make him a standout in their offense. After securing Coleman, the Tacomunchers turned their attention to the defense, drafting Jermaine Burton (WR) in the second round, followed by defensive stalwarts like Chop Robinson (DE) and Cole Bishop (S). This balanced approach ensures that the Tacomunchers remain competitive on both sides of the ball, with a focus on maintaining a strong defense to support their offensive firepower.

Carrollton Ditch Chickens

Top Pick: Ladd McConkey (WR)

The Ditch Chickens went with Ladd McConkey, a speedy wideout who might just become your favorite WR3 in PPR leagues. He’s got that sneaky upside that could make him a weekly flex option if he gets the volume. Blake Corum (RB) in the second round is a solid pick too—he’s a bruiser who could rack up goal-line touchdowns, making him a valuable RB2 or flex play.. The rest of their draft focused on defense, with players like Javon Bullard (S) and Braden Fiske (DT) being added to shore up their defensive lineup. Carrollton appears to have drafted with a well-rounded approach, ensuring they have talent across all positions.

Duval Dealers

Top Pick: Xavier Worthy (WR)

The Duval Dealers went all-in on speed with Xavier Worthy, a receiver who’s basically a home run hitter in full pads. Worthy is expected to be a game-changer for the Dealers' offense, providing them with a deep threat that can score from anywhere on the field. They followed up with the selection of Jared Verse (DE) in the second round, a player who could become a cornerstone of their defense. The Dealers’ draft was well-rounded, addressing both offensive and defensive needs, with players like Ben Sinnott (TE) and Bucky Irving (RB) adding depth and versatility.

Mississippi Butts

Top Pick: Brock Bowers (TE)

The Butts hit a home run with Brock Bowers, a tight end who could easily be a top-5 fantasy TE from Day 1. This guy’s a matchup nightmare, and if you snagged him in your rookie draft, congratulations—you just found yourself a future fantasy stud. The Butts continued to focus on offense by drafting Jaylen Wright (RB) and MarShawn Lloyd (RB), adding depth to their backfield. In the later rounds, they picked up J.J. McCarthy (QB), a promising young signal-caller who could develop into a starter. The Butts’ draft strategy focused on adding versatile playmakers to their roster, aiming to create a dynamic and unpredictable offense.

Gwinnett County Girthy Goobers

Top Pick: Jonathon Brooks (RB)

The Girthy Goobers focused on strengthening their ground game by drafting Jonathon Brooks (RB) with their first pick. Brooks is a powerful runner with the ability to grind out tough yards and break off big plays. In the second round, they added dangerous Dallas Turner (DE), a defensive end with a relentless motor who should make an immediate impact. The Goobers also addressed their quarterback situation by drafting Bo Nix (QB) in the third round, giving them a seasoned leader under center. With a mix of offensive and defensive picks, the Goobers have built a well-rounded team ready to compete.

Tallanasty Bar Rats

Top Pick: Xavier Legette (WR)

The Bar Rats focused on bolstering their receiving corps by drafting Xavier Legette (WR) in the second round. Legette’s size and athleticism make him a potential red-zone threat, adding a new dimension to the Bar Rats' passing game. His SC accent is also fucking incredible! The Bar Rats only had two picks in total, Malachi Corley (WR) being selected in the later rounds. The Bar Rats are betting on their veterans to carry the team, with these rookies providing additional options and future potential.

Tyrone Terminators

Top Pick: Ja'Lynn Polk (WR)

The Terminators started their draft by selecting Ja'Lynn Polk (WR) in the second round. Polk’s speed and route-running ability should give the Terminators' offense a boost. They also focused on defense, drafting Byron Murphy (DT) in the third round to strengthen their defensive line. With a late-round pick, they added Jordan Travis (QB), a dual-threat quarterback who could develop into a starter. The Terminators’ draft was focused on adding key pieces to both their offense and defense, aiming to build a balanced and competitive team. The Terminators are hoping these picks turn into fantasy gems, but for now, they’re more like lottery tickets.

Woodstock Woollies

Top Pick: Laiatu Latu (DE)

The Woodstock Woollies focused on defense with their first pick, drafting Laiatu Latu (DE). Latu is a disruptive force on the edge, capable of getting after the quarterback and setting the edge in the run game. The Woollies also added Michael Penix Jr. (QB) in the fourth round, a quarterback with a strong arm and leadership qualities. The clear downside is that Penix is behind Kirk Cousins in Atlanta at least for this season. With no picks in the first two rounds their draft became defensive-focused, but with the addition of Penix Jr., they also ensured they have a solid option at quarterback moving forward, as this is a dynasty league.

Flotown Fringe Guys

Top Pick: Malik Nabers (WR)

The Fringe Guys kicked off their draft by selecting Malik Nabers (WR) in the first round. Nabers is a versatile receiver who can line up all over the field and make plays in any situation. They followed this pick with Trey Benson (RB) and Roman Wilson (WR), adding more weapons to their offensive arsenal. The Fringe Guys also addressed their defensive line by drafting Darius Robinson (DT) in the fourth round. Their draft was heavily focused on offense, with the goal of building a high-powered unit that can compete with the best in the league and keep the Unholy Grail in their trophy case.

Final Thoughts

This year’s draft was marked by a mix of predictable moves and bold surprises, reflecting the unique strategies and visions of each franchise in the FFLUS. Teams like the Coweta Cowboys and Thomasville Shockers reinforced their offensive firepower, while the TexMex Tacomunchers and Duval Dealers focused on building balanced rosters. One thing’s for sure—these rookies are going to make or break some fantasy seasons. Buckle up, folks, it’s going to be a wild ride in the FFLUS this year!
